Hello! I'm Milo Marie, and this is my art studio.

Studio Joy Wonder was born from a dreamy, possibly idealistic view of the world as being inherently beautiful to behold. My favorite things about being alive include that feeling of joyful wonder I get in my chest when I experience things that make my imagination take flight, that allow me to believe that magic exists.

This theme is ingrained in my artwork as it is the medium with which I reconcile the world in my heart with the realities of day to day life with chronic illness. I want to create safe spaces with my work where one can be with that magic intentionally. I want us all to be able to readily recognize the poetic moments of our lives, be it a simple sunrise or the spreading warmth in our body from a cup of tea.

My art practice largely focuses on illustrative work and its many applications. You can find my artwork applied to many contexts from handmade goods, to prints, to publications, to fabric, and that's because I am fascinated by all the forms art can take. Our lives are full of different contexts we can exist in and try on; my art practice is no different. I do what I enjoy and hope others will enjoy the journey with me.

When I was a kid, I was often described as "a sponge that soaks up information" by family and teachers. I was curious and often into things like closets, books, and berry patches. I really liked taking things I learned and doing it for myself as a way of furthering my understanding. I would learn about sewing and jump right into making my own clothes. When I was seven, I sat at the kitchen table and practiced perspective drawing by drawing a road, because I had been inspired by how it looked on a car ride. I still use my studio practice as a learning tool for what I experience. I like to explore techniques and mark-making so that I may more richly articulate my experiences.

When I'm not drawing, I like to engage in other forms of creativity such as sewing, cooking, writing, reading, photography, and making music playlists. To create makes me feel alive and I strive to find ways to do so with almost everything I do. I hope my wonder at the world will inspire the same in you, too.
